AERIAL TELEPRESENCE

Effectively control a flying camera anywhere in the world in real-time

Cape Aerial Telepresence™ provides the ability to effectively control a flying camera anywhere in the world in real-time.

CAPE AERIAL TELEPRESENCE SOFTWARE FOR DRONES

Cape Aerial Telepresence is a software platform which allows customers to effectively, safely, and easily control a drone anywhere in the world in real-time. Our software empowers customers to utilize commercial drones to their fullest extent completely in-house, without needing to rely on third parties for drone operation.

CAPE CLOUD DATA MANAGEMENT

The Cape Cloud Data Management (CCDM) system provides a single, secure system to organize flight data for use by authorized users. Cape customers have a private portal to keep photo/video data, drone locations, flight plans, historical flight data, users, and other critical information secure while at the same time making the accessible from anywhere for authorized users.

CAPE PROVIDES REMOTE, REAL TIME AERIAL VISUALIZATION FOR EXPERTS

Cape-enabled drones located in the field & controlled by users at operations centers, headquarters, offices, or homes have performed over 100,000 missions around the world with zero incidents. There is no limit on the possible distance between user and drone- whether one, a hundred, or a thousand kilometres away, you can effectively control a drone and view its camera feed with near-zero latency.

Rather than traveling to the area you want to view or the asset that you want to inspect, you can simply step into the cockpit of a drone already located onsite.

HOW CAPE SYSTEM WORKS?

1. INITIALISE

A customer staffed field operative, trained on safe drone operation and Cape technology, goes on-site with a DJI drone and an iPad with the Cape app. Once on-site, they use the Cape app to easily define a safe-space in the sky for the web-flyer to fly within. This includes the ability to mark obstacles (e.g. cranes, towers). After a geofence is created, they turn on the drone and use the Cape app to verify preflight items via a checklist. The drone is now ready to be connected to by the teleoperator.

2. CONNECT, FLY, SPECTATE

Once initialisation is complete, the teleoperator, via their private portal, selects the pre-defined locations and appropriate drone, and initiates flight. This instantaneously establishes an encrypted, peer-to-peer, real-time connection between the teleoperator and the drone. The teleoperator is then able to effectively control the drone as though they were there in person, with two major enhancements:

a simple and intuitive interface for controlling the drone and camera,

an advanced automated flight and geofencing features.

Flight automation pilots the drone to pre-defined locations or via pre-defined routes. Geofences aid in avoiding hazards and also make it impossible for the operator to crash the drone. The key benefit of these features is allowing the teleoperator to focus on their primary job at hand (e.g. asset inspection, video surveillance, etc.) rather than flying the drone.

Spectating - The video livestream is also made available for other interested parties, and is viewable from both computer as well as mobile devices.

3. MANAGE DATA, USERS, DRONES

Each Cape customer has a private portal into the Cape Cloud Data Management system (CCDM). The CCDM provides the tools to create, archive, and manage all of the drone and flight related information including flight plans, flights flown, and videos/photos captured.

Drones - the CCDM manages the drone inventory and their locations. Status, capabilities, historical data, and locations can be viewed and updated.

Flight Plans - unlimited flight plans can be created with the CCDM. Flight plan data can be viewed, modified, and archived. Waypoints, geofences, locations and all the relevant flight plan data is available at the CCDM.

Flight Data - telemetry data and flight history is available at the CCDM. This data provides insights into how drones are being used and by which users. This aids in planning of maintenance, fleet expansion, locations, and staffing.

Videos/Photos Captured - sensor data can also be recorded for future viewing. Videos are stored in the cloud in HD quality.

4. ULTRA LOW LATENCY CONNECTION

Cape's technology establishes an ultra low latency, encrypted peer-to-peer connection between the teleoperator and drone over the Internet. Even if you are on the other side of the world, you can expect to experience under a second of lag. Cape also designed a control scheme to minimise felt latency.

5. ALWAYS SECURE

The Cape CCDM and the Cape app work together to secure the entire drone operation. Two main areas of security are Portal Access and Stream Encryption:

Portal Access - A list of authorised users is maintained to control access. Users with admin privileges can approve/whitelist. Authorisation levels dictate whether you are allowed to: administer the site, operate as an approved drone, or fly as a distance operator. Authentication is either via OAuth or Username/Password, depending on the deployment configuration.

Stream Encryption - All control messaging is over HTTPS/SSL. Streams are encrypted using DTLS and SRTP.

PROCUREMENT

DJI is Cape's and Southern Cross Drones' hardware platform of choice and a leading provider of civil and commercial drone hardware. DJI offers at least 25 different models of drones today. They range from aircraft weighing as little as 300g all the way up to 11kg with a whole host of different cameras, batteries, mounts, sensors, and other equipment that can make picking the right combination overwhelming. Southern Cross Drones' procurement team specialises in working with customers to determine the right drones, payloads, and equipment packages and have it all delivered directly to the end destination, anywhere in Australia.

QUALITY ASSURANCE

Before a drone is ever delivered to a client, Southern Cross Drones' procurement team performs a whole litany of tests to ensure the drone is functioning correctly. Southern Cross Drones tests each drone we deliver for structural integrity, connectivity, sensor performance, flight and handling performance in addition to other test to ensure that the drone delivered to our client is at peak performance.

CUSTOM CONFIGURATION

Cape’s Drone Telepresence and Data Management system is easy to use and provides the end user with the real-time data on which our customers rely. However, every customer is unique with unique needs. This is why the Southern Cross Drones staff will configure your initial set up and with just a few clicks, you become the admin with control over your entire project. Invite team members, set permission levels, add unlimited locations, design custom geofences, all from your web browser.

REGULATORY TRAINING/APPROVALS

Southern Cross Drones is currently developing program to provide training specific to CASA regulatory domain as to ensure compliance and safety for all members of the team including bystanders. Our goal is for training to take the mystery out of regulatory compliance and enable you and your team to be certified and confident to fly quickly.
